Kamlesh Chand from Auckland (New Zealand) rented a car (full size) in Nadi from Europcar and used the service of broker CarTrawler. CarTrawler gets a 1 (Poor) and Europcar a 2 (Fair). Kamlesh Chand wouldn't use the service from CarTrawler again and wouldn't rent a car from Europcar again.

Comment: I had booked the car for 7 days. My flight was cancelled for a day. I only had the car for 6 days. When I came back to Auckland I contacted CarTrawler by phone and also by email. No help. I got a reply about a week later saying that there was no refund for the one day I had not had the vehicle. Very bad service. Will never book through CarTrawler in future.
[note from the editor: No rental company pays any refund in case of a 'no show' or when you don't use a car for the full booking period. There's nothing CarTrawler or any other broker can do about that.]
(According to the information provided by the customer, CarTrawler has not been contacted after the reservation was made and was not given a chance to solve problems when they occurred.)

We did not get type of car that we booked (or similar) from Europcar but: downgrade.
Comment: The first car offered was very dirty inside, the seatcovers etc.! The second car was also dirty inside, but better. But is was not the car, what we booked. Then we got the car with nearly empty fuell. The driverwindow was not working - terrible!!

There was a problem with this information: The brand new mitsubishi outlander or similar on your website was a much older in need of maintenance Honda.

We did not get type of car that we booked (or similar) from Europcar but: they didnt, old car in need of repair, not the new car per car trawler which we then used to book from.
Comment: they said that was the only car they had left.

Comment: we didnt know until we drove off. we arrived late at night 9.30pm their time with two tired children. We were in Fiji, we hadnt any internet, our phones didnt work so we had no way possible to contact car trawler

Comment: the indian man advised the SUV was a 4wd and accrodingly our excess on any accident at fault or not, was $4000 fijian. Fortunatley i had printed the voucher which showed the excess as $2750 fijian. He then told me that was what i would pay IF I PAID THE EXTRA INSURANCE. i told him, that he wasnt correct, that this was the standard excess without paying to reduce it $2750. he then said he would call his manager, i said that was a good idea.

Comment about other issues when picking up the car: The car needed brake pads. it needed a service. i was expecting something a lot newere and in good conditon and well maintained not an old clunker. The spare tyre had holes in it which were plugged up with rubber sticking out in many places. the brakes sqeeled when you applied them, the car ratteled. it was a bomb. it stated that the car would have a FULL TANK OF FUEL when we picked it up, it had a quarter which dropped to an 1/8th when we turned the key to drive to our resort. we then at 9.45pm had to find a service station to refuel.

Comment: see comments above. showing a brand new mitsubishi outlander as the vehicle or similar you will get was misleading. having to argue with the staff member about the excess (he should have my booking details there, it was fortunate i had printed them and had them on me). I do know what a 4wd is, we have one, so i found it insulting he would tell me that the suv is a 4wd and the excess is a lot higher than printed on my contract with car trawler.

Comment: I felt misled once in fiji, the car was totally different. we looked at the cars which other rental cars had out the front and they were new and we saw this scratched up red older honda. i had no control, no way of contacting cartrawler. it was late, we were tired and drove off in an old clunker in need of a service, a full tank of fuel, and brake pads.
